Here’s a piece in which Kim Cattrall talks about playing Cleopatra on stage in an upcoming production in Liverpool. She says that Shakespeare’s verse reminds of her of an accent from Liverpool, where she is from:

That feels quite natural to me. I think that the other thing about being a Liverpudlian, the Liverpool accent is quite musical.

Interesting. I don’t know much about Liverpool or its accent, but I don’t know how a specific accent could sound like verse. Anybody know much about this?

I’m particularly interested in putting a woman of her age into the role of Cleopatra, which is generally played by a younger actress. Anybody have any insights on how that will play?
